The user interface is clean-looking and easy to navigate. Scan is initiated after installation and usually completes in less than 10 minutes. Detection and removal rates are a little low (it removed 31% of detections in our spyware test).

You may improve removal effectiveness with additional functionality from the Lavasoft website.

SE is the latest version of AdAware with quicker scans, and higher removal rates.
You will however, most likely need to combine it with other software we recommend for a better anti-spyware strategy.

So Why Use It?

As always, you get what you pay for.
The free version has a low detection rate and lacks real-time protection to guard against ongoing attack. These shortcomings are mostly limited to the free version (licensed for personal use), but others apply to the paid versions of Lavasoft AdAware as well.
You can compliment this functionality gap with Spyware Doctor's 'OnGuard' protection.

Despite any shortcomings, it is a good trade-off for the price - Free!
